EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat: Solvent-Free Epoxy Primer and Top Coat

EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat is a high-performance, solvent-free epoxy coating designed to function both as a penetrating primer and as a hard-wearing coloured top coat. Its low-odour, high-build formulation is ideal for industrial and commercial floors that demand excellent mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and an easy-to-clean finish. PrimeCoat ties strongly into prepared concrete substrates and creates a seamless, liquid-tight surface when used as part of a complete EpoxyGuard or PU Guard flooring system.

As a primer, EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat wets out correctly prepared concrete, reducing surface porosity and promoting adhesion of subsequent epoxy or polyurethane systems.

As a top coat, it provides a smooth, durable finish that resists abrasion, impact and a wide range of commonly encountered industrial chemicals. This dual-use capability makes PrimeCoat a versatile choice for installers who want a single, reliable system component that can be used for both base and finishing coats.

Using EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat as a Primer

When used as a primer, EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat is applied to correctly prepared, sound concrete. The surface must be clean, dry and free of laitance, oils, curing agents and contaminants. Mechanical preparation such as grinding, vacuum-assisted shot-blasting or scarifying is recommended to expose open pores and create a suitable profile. PrimeCoat is then rolled out in a uniform coat, wetting the surface and reducing porosity. This priming layer improves adhesion, helps to bind the surface and provides a consistent base for subsequent EpoxyGuard or PU Guard build coats.

On more absorbent or uneven substrates, a second primer coat may be specified to ensure that the surface is fully sealed and to avoid excessive absorption of the finishing coats. Once the primer has cured within the recommended overcoating window, EpoxyGuard build coats or PU Guard systems can be installed in line with project specifications.

Using EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat as a Top Coat

As a top coat, EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat is applied over a suitably primed and, where required, levelled substrate. It can be used as a single-colour finishing layer to provide a neat, uniform appearance with a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. The coating delivers excellent resistance to abrasion, rolling loads and general traffic, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and commercial environments.

Depending on the required slip resistance and service conditions, EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat can be finished as a smooth coating or combined with suitable non-slip media in a system build-up. Multiple coats may be applied to increase film build and enhance durability. Once fully cured, PrimeCoat forms a tough, seamless epoxy surface that helps protect the underlying concrete from wear, chemical exposure and routine cleaning regimes.

EpoxyGuard – PrimeCoat should always be installed by trained applicators who follow correct surface preparation, mixing and application procedures. When used as specified, it becomes a key component in a robust, long-term flooring solution that supports performance, safety and ease of maintenance.
