How EpoxyGuard – DeepPrime Works

DeepPrime is based on a multi-component epoxy system that, once mixed, reacts to form a tough, chemically resistant network within the surface layer of the substrate. Because of its excellent penetration, it does more than simply sit on top of the concrete – it soaks into the open pores and profile created during mechanical preparation. This penetration helps to lock the primer into the surface, reducing the risk of debonding and providing an ideal key for subsequent layers.

Once cured, EpoxyGuard – DeepPrime forms a dense, low-porosity film that limits air release from the slab and assists in achieving a smoother, more uniform finish when the main coating or screed is applied. This is particularly valuable when installing high-build epoxy or polyurethane flooring systems where pinholes, bubbles or poor adhesion can compromise the final result.

Application Overview

• Surface preparation: Substrates must be structurally sound, dry and free from oils, waxes, fats, dust, curing compounds and other contaminants. Mechanical preparation such as grinding, scarification or wet vacu-blasting is recommended to expose sound concrete and open pores. Acid etching is not recommended.
• Mixing: The kit components are pre-proportioned and must be mixed in full. Pre-stir each component, then add the activator to the base and blend with a low-speed mechanical mixer. Mix until a uniform, streak-free liquid is obtained, making sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the container.
• Application: Apply EpoxyGuard – DeepPrime with a medium nap roller to achieve an even, continuous film. Work the primer into the surface to encourage penetration into the texture of the substrate. A second coat may be applied on very porous substrates to ensure complete sealing.
• Overcoating: Once the primer has cured within the recommended overcoating window, it can be overlaid with suitable EpoxyGuard or PU Guard systems. Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust before applying subsequent coats.

System Compatibility

EpoxyGuard – DeepPrime is designed as the priming layer within the EpoxyGuard flooring and coating range, and can also be used as part of a broader system that includes PolyGuard and PU Guard finishes where an epoxy primer is preferred. It is particularly effective beneath epoxy coatings, epoxy screeds and polyurethane floor toppings that demand strong adhesion and dimensionally stable substrates.
